How do I reposition an effect?

The process of repositioning an effect varies somewhat depending on what type of effect you are working with.  Instructions are listed below, by layer type.

For a Grade Object:

  1. Grade objects affect the entire canvas, and therefore have no animation controls.  If you wish to limit the area affected by a Grade Object, use masks.

For a Laser effect:

  1. On the timeline, click the triangle at the far left of the layer to view the layer controls if they aren’t already visible.
  2. Click “Attributes” for the Laser effect.
  3. Origin points will appear at either end of the effect on the Canvas, and the Effects Attributes will appear in the Toolbox.  Use these to animate the layer.

For Lightning: (VisionLab only)

  1. On the timeline, click the triangle at the far left of the layer to view the layer controls if they aren’t already visible.
  2. Click “Attributes” for the Lightning effect.
  3. Origin points will appear at either end of the effect on the Canvas, and the Effects Attributes will appear in the Toolbox.  Use these to animate the layer.

For a Muzzle Flash:

  1. On the timeline, click the triangle at the far left of the layer to view the layer controls if they aren’t already visible.
  2. Click “Flash Attributes” for the muzzle flash layer.
  3. An origin point and the positioning orbits will appear on the Canvas, and the Flash Attributes will appear in the Toolbox.  Use these to animate the layer.

For a Neon Light:

  1. On the timeline, click the triangle at the far left of the layer to view the layer controls if they aren’t already visible.
  2. Click the triangle next to Neon shapes to view the neon shapes included in the effect, if the list is not already visible.
  3. Click the name of the neon shape that you wish to edit.
    • If there are no Neon shapes listed, you will need to create one.  Select the type of shape you want from the Neon Shapes menu in the info pane of the Toolbox.  Once it is created, you will automatically be in the animation mode.
  4. Re-draw the points or drag the effect to reposition it.

For Optics:

  1. On the timeline, click the triangle at the far left of the layer to view the layer controls if they aren’t already visible.
  2. Click “Optic Movement” for the Optics effect.
  3. An origin point will appear on the Canvas, and the Effects Attributes will appear in the Toolbox.  Use these to animate the layer.
To adjust the position of an individual element of an optics effect:
  1. On the timeline, click the triangle at the far left of the layer to view the layer controls if they aren’t already visible.
  2. Select Optic Shapes.  The list of shapes which make up the effect will appear under Attributes in the Toolbox.
  3. Select the shape you wish to edit from the list. Click the triangle to view its attributes if necessary.
  4. Use the Offset X and Offset Y controls to adjust its position.

For a Particle effect:

  1. On the timeline, click the triangle at the far left of the layer to view the layer controls if they aren’t already visible.
  2. Click “Emitter Attributes” for the particle effect.
  3. An origin point will appear on the Canvas, and the Emitter Attributes will appear in the Toolbox.  Use these to animate the layer. Some particle effects use a rectangular emitter, rather than a point.
